Robert W. Carr is the Executive Director of the Aegis Lab and brings a wealth of experience in helping nurture and guide entrepreneurial leaders. Robert W. Carr is the Executive Director of the Aegis Lab and brings a wealth of experience in helping nurture and guide entrepreneurial leaders. He has worked with corporate leaders across the globe as an Executive Performance Coach with the J&J Human Performance Institute and with many young business leaders.


He has served as the Chief Medical Officer for Kumanu, a precision well-being technology company, and as Senior Vice President and Corporate Medical Director at the global healthcare firm GlaxoSmithKline with a career spanning 25 years. He also served as a Flight and Preventive Medicine specialist with the US Air Force for 12 years.  


Dr. Carr served as Associate Professor at Georgetown University and led the Executive Masters Program in Heath Systems Leadership as its inaugural Program Director. He is a past President of the American College of Preventive Medicine, the professional society for physicians dedicated to preventive medicine and population health.


He completed his Doctor of Medicine studies at the University of Miami School of Medicine and his Master of Public Health and Preventive Medicine Residency at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Hygiene & Public Health.

Mark Howard Chichester brings three decades of executive management, organizational and board leadership experience to Aegis.  


Mark co-founded Atlas Research, an award-winning, middle market consultancy that led enterprise-level transformation efforts for the nation’s largest integrated health system.

Mark Howard Chichester brings three decades of executive management, organizational and board leadership experience to Aegis.  


Mark co-founded Atlas Research, an award-winning, middle market consultancy that led enterprise-level transformation efforts for the nation’s largest integrated health system.  He served as a Vice President at The Aspen Institute and as Executive Director of Aspen's Socrates Society, where he developed and oversaw a portfolio of programs and seminars on contemporary leadership issues, including bioethics and health care, climate change and energy sustainability, international security, media, religion, leadership, democracy, technology, and innovation. He launched the Institute’s Socrates Salon Series, inaugurated in Silicon Valley in 2008, and worked with senior officials from the Obama, Bush, Clinton, and Reagan administrations. 


Mark served on the executive staff of former Congressman Bill Gray at UNCF, where he led the Division of Policy Studies and Research and oversaw the Institute for International Public Policy and the Center for Assessment, Planning and Accountability. Prior to his tenure at UNCF, he worked on the Policy Coordination Staff in the Office of the Director General at the U.S. Department of State.


Mark has served on the boards of the National Education Association Foundation (including a stint as chairman), PeaceTech Lab, GW Medical Faculty Associates, and the Forum on Education Abroad; and he is currently vice chair of the board of trustees of George Washington University.  In addition to his board service, he has been a member of the U.S. Army Chief of Staff's Eisenhower National Security Series Working Group; a Term Member of the Council on Foreign Relations, where he co-chaired the Washington Term Member Advisory Committee; and an appointee to the U.S. Trade Representative's Trade Advisory Committee on Africa.


Mark holds degrees in business and law from The George Washington University, where he received The George Washington Award, the MLK Medal for Outstanding Contributions in Human Rights, and the Baer Leadership Award.  He was inducted into the George Washington Circle of the Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society, held a Shapiro Fellowship in the Republic of Korea, and was an Aspen Institute Executive Seminarian.

Ryung Suh brings three decades of executive management, financial, and organizational leadership experience and expertise  to the Aegis Fund, a social impact fund with the mission to support Aegis investment opportunities that create business value.


He built and exited a middle-market health management consultancy that led major transformation efforts for federal health agencies, directed major public and private sector enterprise-level modernization and organizational change initiatives, managed a commercial consulting practice serving the life sciences industry, and launched over a dozen successful businesses that have served government and private industry clients. 


Dr. Suh serves on the executive faculty at Georgetown University, where he has served as Chair of the Department of Health Systems Administration and Chair of the Executive Faculty. He teaches on health policy, health system management, business innovations, and other areas. He served on the faculty of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) and as a Senior Fellow with NORC at the University of Chicago.


Dr. Suh also served as an infantry and medical corps officer for 26 years with a diverse set of operational, special operations, and military health system responsibilities. He is a combat veteran who has deployed to multiple overseas locations to include service as a Task Force Surgeon during Operation Enduring Freedom, where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. His military qualifications include airborne, ranger, jumpmaster, and flight surgeon.


He graduated from the United States Military Academy and completed his medical, public policy, and management studies at Georgetown University, with additional studies at the Yonsei University School of International Studies and Trinity College, Oxford University.

Ryan Vega is a physician executive who brings deep knowledge and experience of healthcare innovation, emerging technology, and clinical operations to the Aegis fund, a social impact fund with the mission to support Aegis investment opportunities that create business value. He has built and led an enterprise healthcare innovation program with a focus ranging from early stage investments to scaling of solutions across multiple, complex markets. Additionally, he has led large, multi-disciplinary teams which have driven major healthcare transformation efforts in both the government and private sector.


Dr. Vega remains a practicing physician and holds academic appointments at George Washington University as well as Georgetown University.


He obtained his doctorate of medicine from LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, completed his Internal Medicine residency at the Virginia Commonwealth University and also obtained a Masters of Science of Healthcare Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University where he was an A.D. Williams Scholar.

Dr. Kizer’s broad experience includes engineering the internationally acclaimed transformation of the Veterans Healthcare System – the nation’s largest healthcare system – in the late 1990s when serving as the VA’s Undersecretary for Health. This transformation developed and implemented numerous systemic changes that produced dramatically improved quality of care, service satisfaction and operational efficiency. 


He was the founding President and CEO of the National Quality Forum, considered by many as the nation’s premier health care quality improvement organization. He was the founding Chairman and former President and CEO of Medsphere Systems Corporation, a leading provider of subscription-based health information technology. Early in his career, he orchestrated California’s response to the then new HIV/AIDS epidemic, established the internationally renowned California Tobacco Control Program, pioneered Medicaid managed care, and was the architect of California’s statewide emergency medical services system. More recently, he was the founding Director of the Institute for Population Health Improvement in the University of California Davis Health System and Chief Healthcare Transformation Officer at Atlas Research. 


Dr. Kizer has the rare distinction of being an elected member of both the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) and the National Academy of Public Administration. He has been a member of numerous expert panels on Veteran and military health issues, as well as population health issues. He is board certified in six medical specialties and/or subspecialties and a fellow or distinguished fellow of 12 professional societies. He is an honors graduate of Stanford University and the UCLA Schools of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Kizer has authored more than 500 original articles, book chapters and other reports in the professional literature, and is the recipient of numerous national awards and recognitions. He is a Veteran of the U.S. Navy.
